HEREMA — Official Digital Platform for Greece’s Energy Resources Authority.

🏛️ We designed and developed the official website for HEREMA, the Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company — a state-owned organisation with a central role in Greece’s energy landscape. The platform was built to communicate complex public-sector energy information with clarity, authority, and modern digital presentation, covering hydrocarbons, offshore wind, CCS, underground gas storage, offshore safety, tenders, and data access.

Challenge & Context

🧩 The main challenge was translating a highly complex, policy-heavy, and technically detailed energy domain into a digital experience that felt clear and intuitive for multiple audiences. HEREMA’s public site spans a wide range of subject areas — from hydrocarbon exploration and licensing to offshore wind, carbon capture and storage, underground gas storage, offshore safety, tenders, and a data centre containing technical information on Greece’s subsurface and seas. 📚 That meant the platform had to handle both institutional communication and dense informational architecture at the same time. It needed to feel official and trustworthy, while also being modern, navigable, and scalable enough to support frequent updates, public notices, structured documentation, and sector-specific content. HEREMA also publicly positions itself around Greece’s path to net zero, energy security, and the monetisation of national energy assets, so the site had to reflect that strategic importance visually and editorially.

Approach & Architecture

🏗️ Our approach was to build the platform as a structured WordPress-driven content system with a clear information hierarchy, reusable page patterns, and motion used selectively to elevate the experience without compromising clarity. The architecture was shaped around HEREMA’s core public pillars: Hydrocarbon Exploration & Production, Offshore Wind, CCS & UGS, Offshore Safety, and corporate/about content, alongside utility sections such as News, Tenders, Careers, Contact, and the Data Centre. 🧠 On the front end, we used GSAP to introduce refined, modern interaction and visual pacing, helping large amounts of institutional content feel more engaging and easier to absorb. The goal was not decorative animation for its own sake, but a more polished presentation layer that strengthened content discovery, visual rhythm, and the perceived quality of the platform.

Technology Stack

🛠️ WordPress 🎞️ GSAP 🌐 Responsive front-end development 🧱 Custom theme / structured content architecture 📄 Scalable public-sector content implementation

Implementation

💻 I led the development of the website and implemented the project in WordPress, building a flexible, maintainable system capable of supporting a broad public-sector content model. The implementation focused on delivering a professional editorial structure, strong section-level consistency, and a front-end experience that could scale across informational pages, regulatory content, tender notices, and data-oriented sections. HEREMA’s live site includes dedicated areas for licensing procedures, tender notices, offshore safety documentation, and a data centre with technical resource information, reflecting the breadth the build needed to support. 🚀 Motion and presentation were enhanced through GSAP, allowing the experience to feel more contemporary while preserving the seriousness expected from a national energy authority platform. The end result is a website that combines institutional credibility, content scalability, and a more modern digital identity.
